Artistic gymnastics is the oldest, most popular and impressive sport of competitive gymnastics. Its name derives from the fact that the athlete performs a program on a specially designed instrument. With or without time limit (depending on the instrument) and without music accompaniment (excluding women’s ground exercises).
Artistic gymnastics belongs to the category of crisis sports, in which the performance of each athlete is determined by the score given to him by a special panel of judges. A program consists of a series of moves that are scored independently. Depending on their degree of difficulty and the perfection -technical and artistic- with which they are performed. The final score for the whole program results from the sum of the points collected by each move separately.
